On September 15, representatives from regional media, as well as representatives from Liepaja State Technical School and RTU branch in Liepaja visited RK Metāls production facilities to learn more about the planned and current production.
The Member of the Board of RK Metāls Artjoms Fokejevs gave a presentation in which he mostly talked about the new business direction of UPB Holding, as well as about the automotive industry and the vast amount of possibilities and opportunities it provides. Together with his colleague, Spodris Skaldžis, he guided an excursion in various production facilities.
In the middle of the year the production facilities were modernised – a new CO2 laser cutting machine TRIUMPF TruLaser 3030 TruFlow 5000, coordinate measuring machine Hexagon ROMER Absolute Arm, as well as hydraulic press brake DURMA ADS 25100 were bought, thus doubling production volume, decreasing energy consumption, providing more objective and precise control and comparison of various elements with the ones defined in a technical drawing. This modernisation enabled 3D printing using scanned geometry information.
“Currently we are a company of the German quality, but we would be even more proud to hear a comparison 'Latvian quality' in next 10-20 years, because we can provide the quality and we can achieve this goal if we work together,” A. Fokejevs shared his vision about the future goals in the industry.
The modernisation project has been carried out in cooperation with the Latvian Investment and Development Agency (LIDA) and the support of Norway Grants (a Norvegian financial instrument) programme for the period of 2009-2014 “Innovations in the field of 'green' production”
